Tampines North Polyclinic
Located at the junction of Tampines St 61 and Tampines Ave 4, SHP-Tampines North will be the new health-community hub to bring value-added healthcare services to the residents of Tampines North. The main theme is derived from the “Leaf Motif” of Tampines New Town, embellished by native flora and fauna imageries to create an inclusive and biophilic environment close to Nature. Lush landscaping is composed around the building in the form of terraced gardens and therapy theme roof gardens for Community engagement and enjoyment. Overall colour theme of green hues, grey and white will blend in seamlessly with the colour theme of surrounding new HDB developments. A feature wall with banyan tree motif along Tampines Ave 4 provides effective sun-shading to the Eastern façade and at the same time, heralds a strong identity for the new SHP-Tampines North.
The key design strategy is to create a green corridor through the 1st storey, open to public 24/7, and linking the road junctions to the park and HDB BTO development to the North and Nursing Home to the West. This sheltered high volume space becomes the main thoroughfare for both residents and visitors, providing a conducive and quiet space for both young and old residents to hang out for coffee, and learn about health enhancement and prevention of disease at the same time.
The stigma of visiting the doctor and anxiety of waiting in cold, sanitised enclosed areas will be totally transformed with the new typology of relaxing, daylight-filled spaces designed to promote both community and health initiatives, surrounded by greenery, clear signages for wayfinding and soothing colours. The facilities will also be designed to be direct and intuitive for use, to encourage independence and to promote a self-help, D-I-Y culture for all ages and abilities.
