Kaki Bukit Community Club
The vision was to design an open and inclusive Community Club for the People, with no physical boundaries and universally designed inclusive spaces. The design provided programmable spaces that address the needs of the current demographic, with flexibility planned.
The existing building structure was mostly retained, and a new extension added to densify the development. The new 4 storey extension consists of a double volume naturally ventilated space at ground level, a sheltered programmable zone at 3rd storey, and a new roof garden which opens to the sky.
The new facade allows a new level of lightness and transparency to be achieved, balancing the civic image of a Community Club with an understated playfulness in design. Spaces were re-grouped to allow high energy human activities to form part of the new façade, a new backdrop to its immediate urban context. Passive environmental elements were integrated into the design, and materials were chosen through a sustainability and durability analysis.
